What We Do

Arogya Foundation puts the initial steps for supporting patients with disabilities by providing necessary medical equipments to uplift their life. The Foundation’s aim is to ensure that all people in the Sri Lanka with disabilities can access the training and support required to achieve their goals.
A team of Singaporean doctors headed by Dr. Prem Pillai, a Neurosurgeon at Mount Elizabeth and Gleneagles Hospitals and Dr. Dev Akhbar of Camden Medical Centre in Singapore were invited by the foundation to Sri Lanka on a suggestion by Rev Unapana Ariyadhamma Thero in 2006. The team stepped forward to provide the entire medical assistant for medical centre including all the facilities which are essential for hi-tech medical treatments. Now Arogya foundation seeks donors to start this project in Sri Lanka immediately and support patients.

Disabled people in Sri Lanka

The Annual Health Bulletin of the Health Department of 2001 -2005 in Sri Lanka clearly shows a substantial increase in hospitalizing for major injuries /disabilities related to brain and spine. The 2002 Annual Health Bulletin says that such cases have increased from 1732 cases in 1980 to 3619 cases in 2001 per 100,000. Since these statistics are collected only from patients seeking treatment in the Government Hospitals.

During last three years foundation received thousands of requests from patients all over the country who need medical support immediately. The foundation believe that the actual number would be more higher than this, unfortunately there is no such organization or institution specially providing medical treatments for disabilities related to brain and spine except the Government Health service. Sri Lanka suffers for many years of lacking professional medical centre providing the latest medical treatments for spine and nerve damages.
